Black Flag Lo-Fi Harmonic Thickener
The Black Flag contours the sound of your instrument, rolls off some of the highs, thickening the mids, and adds punch to the bass... it's an anti-buffer... it kind of swamps up your tone.
The Black Flag is set to unity at full counter clockwise on the knob.
The knob isn't a volume, it's a harmonic thickener. The amount of drive
and sonic layering is increased the more you turn the knob up. Or,
more simply, turned down is less loud, thick and drivey. Turned up is
more loud, thick and drivey.
This project came from a mistake. When working up the No Masters circuit boards, I made an error... and I didn't catch that error until the boards were in hand. Instead of throwing them out, I shelved them and in some free time figured out how to use the mistake as an advantage. Over the last year, I sourced parts, scoured for deals and built the Black Flag up from the ashes.
The second part of this project involves trying to lean into something positive for the world. A chunk of each sale is going directly to the Institute for Anarchist Studies. The IAS is an organization that supports writers, organizers, and activists who are working to leverage some decency in this world. You can find out more about them on their facebook (listed under their name) and twitter (@narchiststudies) pages.
This is my most affordable production pedal to date, and it is also the one poised to leverage the most good.
Jacks: In on the Right, Out on the Left
Footswitch: Engages the pedal Knob:
Adjusts the thickness of the output. It's an expanded and modified Depth control from the Buzz Tone.
This version has internal trim pots to adjust the volume and volts. Volts are best where they are set, but you can fiddle with it if'n you want.
The Black Flag is a lunch pail pedal... there are no mystical diodes or ancient Egyptian transistors... there isn't even an LED. We've worked hard to make this as bare-bones as possible, accessing classic early rock tones, with the intent on keeping the price point ultra low. The Black Flag is a pedal that works, has got soul, and is intended to be abused without guilt.
Based on the Selmer Buzz-Tone. This has been modified and modernized.
This pedal is hand made here in Maine. Each box is hand stamped and
the pedal you receive may differ slightly from the one pictured.
Industry standard 9vlt jack, no wall wart included, no battery option, isolated power supply recommended. Run at 9 volts only.
